What is a Brazil NFC-e QR code?
A Nota Fiscal de Consumidor Eletrônica (NFC-e) QR code sits at the bottom of Brazilian retail receipts. Scanning it opens a page hosted by the issuing state's tax portal, showing the exact items, taxes, and totals on file for that sale.
Who issues it
Brazil's state tax authorities, each called a Secretaria da Fazenda or SEFAZ, issue and validate every NFC-e. The retailer's point-of-sale system requests authorization from SEFAZ for each sale, and only then prints the code.
The standard behind it
NFC-e is part of Brazil's broader electronic invoicing program (Nota Fiscal Eletrônica). Each code carries a receipt identifier tied to the state's own records, not to anything the shopper or retailer controls after the sale.
Why you can't generate this here
The identifier is minted and assigned by an issuing authority or registry (a tax authority, health ministry, or goods-serialization registry). It can be checked, not manufactured by a third-party tool.

Can I make a Brazil NFC-e QR code with a generator?
No. The identifier only means something once a state tax authority has issued and recorded it. A code we generated ourselves wouldn't match anything in SEFAZ's system, so it would be a receipt for a sale that never happened.
Can I check whether one I received is genuine?
Yes. Scan the code and it opens the issuing state's own verification page, or use check.qr.abundera.ai to read the raw contents first.
