GS1 element strings pack multiple pieces of information, product identifier, batch, expiry, serial number, into one code using GS1's application identifier format.
Who issues it
The company that owns the GS1 company prefix for the product, registered through GS1, assigns each element string.
The standard behind it
GS1's General Specifications define how application identifiers are structured. Retailers, logistics providers, and healthcare systems worldwide read them the same way.
Why you can't generate this here
The identifier is minted and assigned by an issuing authority or registry (a tax authority, health ministry, or goods-serialization registry). It can be checked, not manufactured by a third-party tool.

Can I make a GS1 element strings QR code with a generator?
We generate GS1 Digital Link QR codes for products you control the identifiers for (see our GS1 Digital Link support). A raw element string built without a real, registered GS1 prefix wouldn't identify anything real.
