How Text QR Codes Work

A text QR code stores plain text directly in the QR pattern. When scanned, the text appears on the user's screen immediately — no internet connection required. This makes text QR codes ideal for offline use, serial numbers, codes, short messages, and any content that doesn't need to be a clickable link.

Unlike URL QR codes that open a browser, text QR codes simply display the encoded text. This is useful when you want to share information without directing someone to a website.

How to Create a Text QR Code

  1. Type or paste your text in the input field. You can enter up to 900 characters.
  2. Customize the style — choose colors, templates, dot shapes, and add a logo if desired.
  3. Download and share your QR code in PNG, SVG, or PDF format.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many characters can a text QR code hold?

Our generator supports up to 900 characters. QR codes can technically hold up to about 2,950 characters, but longer text creates more complex codes that are harder to scan. We recommend keeping it under 300 characters for best scannability.

Does the text QR code need internet to work?

No. The text is encoded directly in the QR image. When scanned, the text displays immediately on the user's screen without any internet connection. This makes text QR codes perfect for offline environments.

Can I encode formatted text (bold, links, etc.)?

QR codes store plain text only — no formatting, bold, links, or HTML. If you need clickable links, use a URL QR code. If you need rich formatting, create a webpage and use a URL QR code to link to it.
