How Spotify QR codes work
Spotify links work via two URL forms: the canonical share link (https://open.spotify.com/track/...) and the URI scheme (spotify:track:...). Both open the Spotify app on devices that have it installed and fall back to the web player otherwise. Our generator builds the canonical https URL because it's the most universally compatible — every iOS/Android camera, every QR scanner, every desktop browser will route it correctly.
You can paste either a full share link (we extract the type and ID) or just the bare 22-character ID and pick the type from the dropdown. We support tracks, albums, playlists, artists, podcast shows, and individual podcast episodes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I get the Spotify ID?
Easiest way: in the Spotify app, tap Share → Copy Link. The 22-character ID is the last segment of the URL. You can paste either the full URL or just the ID.
Will the QR open in the app or in a browser?
If the user has the Spotify app installed, the OS routes the URL to the app. If not, it opens open.spotify.com in their browser. Either way they hear the music.
Does the user need a Spotify Premium account?
No. Tracks and playlists open in the free tier; only some features (skip, on-demand, ad-free) require Premium.
Can I encode multiple tracks?
Build a playlist in Spotify with the tracks, then encode the playlist. One QR, multiple songs.
How is this different from Spotify's own scannable codes?
Spotify's 'Spotify Codes' are a proprietary visual format that only the Spotify app scans. Our QR is a regular QR code that any camera reads, opening the same destination in the Spotify app. More universal but less branded.
Does this work for podcasts?
Yes. Pick 'Podcast Show' or 'Podcast Episode' in the dropdown. Spotify shows and episodes have their own URL prefixes and our generator builds them correctly.
Can I use this for Apple Music or YouTube Music?
Not directly — those are different URL schemes. Use the URL QR type with the share link from those apps.
